Choosing an airline for a transatlantic flight or for travel within Europe requires an understanding of fare rules and baggage transport regulations. Our experience shows that Aer Lingus remains one of the most sought-after carriers thanks to its unique procedure of completing U.S. customs pre-clearance while still on Irish territory.
Route network and main hub
The airline’s main hub airport is located in Dublin (DUB), with an additional hub in Cork. The transit areas in Dublin are organized logically and conveniently, allowing connections with minimum transfer times starting from 45 minutes for European flights.
Main destinations
- Ireland and United Kingdom: London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham
- Europe: Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Rome, Berlin
- North America: New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto
Fares and baggage transport rules
A frequent question from passengers is which fare to choose in order to avoid extra charges at the airport. The rules depend on the type of flight: within Europe or across the Atlantic.
Flights within Europe
| Fare | Carry-on baggage | Checked baggage | Seat selection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saver | 10 kg (gate check*) | For a fee | For a fee |
| Plus | 10 kg | 20 kg | Free (standard) |
| Advantage | 10 kg | 20 kg | Free (any seat) |
| AerSpace | 10 kg (in cabin) | 20 kg | Front rows + VIP lounge |
* Under the Saver fare, carry-on baggage up to 10 kg is checked into the aircraft hold free of charge before boarding, if the “Carry-on bag with priority boarding” service is not reserved.
Transatlantic flights
On flights to the USA and Canada, in economy class one checked bag with a weight of up to 23 kg is usually allowed (except for the Saver fare, where baggage is paid separately).
In business class, passengers are allowed to carry up to three bags, each weighing up to 32 kg.
US Pre-clearance advantage in Dublin
Passengers flying to the USA from Dublin pass U.S. passport and customs control directly at the departure airport.
Why it is convenient
- Arrival in the USA as a domestic passenger
- No border queues after a long flight
- Quick exit to the city or connection to a domestic flight
Flight check-in
We recommend using online check-in to avoid additional fees and to reduce waiting time at the airport.
- Flights within Europe: check-in opens 48 hours before departure
- Flights to the USA: check-in is available 24 hours in advance
- Mobile app: allows you to store your boarding pass in electronic format
Onboard services
On European flights, meals are available for a fee (Bia menu). On long-haul routes, the ticket price includes hot meals, beverages, and an in-flight entertainment system.
Paid Wi-Fi is available on board Airbus A330 and A321neoLR aircraft.
