In a few years, the world will once again be glued to its screens and stadium seats - the 2030 World Cup promises to be the largest tournament in football history. And here's good news for Romanian fans: most of the host cities will be reachable without layovers. The Zbor24.ro team looked into where to fly and what to keep in mind when planning your trip.

Where the tournament will take place

The 24th World Cup marks the 100th anniversary of the very first tournament, held in Uruguay in 1930, and the organizers decided to celebrate this milestone in a special way.

The main hosts of the tournament are Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. The vast majority of matches, including the final, will be played here. The tournament will run from June 8 to July 21, 2030 - the longest World Cup in history.

How to get there from Romania

The good news is that a significant number of the host cities are already connected to Romanian airports by direct flights, and by 2030 the route network is only likely to grow.

From Bucharest (Henri Coandă Airport), direct flights currently operate to Madrid, Barcelona, and Lisbon - three of the tournament's key host cities. The flight to Madrid takes about 3.5–4 hours, and to Lisbon roughly the same.

From Cluj-Napoca, there are direct flights to Madrid and Barcelona, as well as routes to Marrakech (around 4 hours 50 minutes) and Lisbon (about 4 hours 25 minutes) - meaning travelers from Transylvania will be able to reach Spain, Portugal, and even Moroccan cities with almost no layovers.

For the remaining host cities - Seville, Bilbao, Porto, Valencia, Vigo, Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, and others - the best option will be a connecting flight through a major hub (Madrid, Barcelona, or Lisbon), which are precisely the cities with direct links to Romania.

• Compare routes through different hubs. Sometimes it's cheaper to reach Moroccan cities via a Lisbon layover than flying direct - it's worth checking both options.
