Iași Airport Expands: New Flights to Europe!

If you frequently fly from Iași International Airport, the coming months may bring very good news. The airport management is currently in active negotiations to open new routes to important European destinations such as Athens, southern France, cities in northern Germany, as well as Italy and the United Kingdom. Although nothing is official yet, the discussions are ongoing and indicate a clear direction of development.

The year 2025 confirmed the upward trend of Iași Airport. Over 2.2 million people passed through Iași Airport last year, marking steady growth compared to the previous year.

August was the busiest month, with nearly 225,000 passengers in a single month. For six consecutive months, the airport exceeded one million passengers. In November, the threshold of 2 million passengers in a year was reached for the third time in history — an important milestone for a city like Iași.

2025 was also the year when the airport expanded its flight offerings. Two new airlines entered the market: Animawings and flydubai. Thanks to them, the first direct flight to Dubai was introduced — a premiere for the region.

In addition, routes to Istanbul, Prague, and Valencia were launched, and summer 2025 brought charter flights to Palma de Mallorca. For the summer of 2026, a new destination has already been confirmed: Thessaloniki.

The airport director, Romeo Vatră, stated that negotiations for new routes are ongoing and that expansion will continue. According to him, the growth trend observed in recent years will continue in 2026 and in the longer term.

In 2025, seven airlines operated from Iași — including Wizz Air, Ryanair, TAROM, and Austrian Airlines — with regular flights to 27 destinations. Charter flights to Greece, Turkey, Egypt, and Tunisia were also added.

An interesting detail: after boarding bridges (jet bridges) were installed in April, nearly a third of flights have already used them. A small step at first glance, but an important one for passenger experience.

Thus, Iași Airport is no longer just a simple regional airport. Continuous growth, route diversification, and infrastructure investments clearly show that it is becoming an increasingly important hub on the regional aviation map.
